How To Reach Us

Our Pastor and Church Leaders

On January 6, 2013, the congregation voted to take a different and untried path regarding our pastoral leadership.  Harry J. Heintz joins our congregation as our one-quarter time teaching elder (pastor).  Harry is retired after serving the Brunswick Presbyterian Church for thirty years.  Harry will be serving us as head of staff and will be guiding us into the future.

Michael Crandall will be serving us three-quarter time in the capacity of Minister of Evangelism and Discipleship.

The Session
The Session (Made Up of the Ruling Elders) Nominating Committee seeks people who are thinkers, have a vision for the future, are enablers, and are team players. Elders serve on subcommittees, yet need to have an overall view of the whole picture. TERM OF OFFICE: Three-year term; 2 consecutive terms maximum. Elders are called to exercise leadership, government and discipline for the life of the church. With primary responsibility for nurturing and overseeing the spiritual and theological life of the congregation, each Elder works on at least one sub-committee with a specialty in leading the congregation in mission and outreach; providing for music and worship; congregational life including receiving new members and new member classes, baptism and communion; staff support and offering educational programs; or stewardship and membership challenging the congregation in its stewardship of time, talent and financial resources and ensuring that membership records are updated.

ELDERS (Elders are the Session) “Elders are chosen by the people. Together with the ministers of the Word and Sacrament, they exercise leadership, government, and discipline, and have responsibilities for the life of a particular church as well as the church-at-large, including ecumenical relationships. They shall serve faithfully as members of the Session.” The Book of Order, G-6.0303 “Elders should be persons of faith, dedication, and good judgment. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel, both within the church and in the world.” The Book of order, G-6.0303 “Ruling Elders, together with the Pastors, constitute the Session. The Session is responsible for the spiritual decision making of the congregation and is the final authority in decision making of the congregation. The Elders also represent the congregation at meetings of the Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly when commissioned.

The Trustees

The Office of Trustee is one of dignity and responsibility, requiring ability and devotion. ”The Book of Order“ the Board of Trustees holds and administers, on behalf of the church, and subject to its will as expressed by the congregation or the Session: all church property, trust funds and endowments.” Nominating Committee seeks people who are doers, who have an interest in maintaining the Church properties, who have knowledge and interest in the financial aspects of the Church, and who are willing to work together to fulfill the needs of the Church. TERM OF OFFICE: Three-year term; no consecutive terms The Trustees are called to assume the responsibility for the financial and business affairs of the church and report to the Session. The responsibilities include oversight of property administration, legal and insurance, as well as management of our endowments and future funds. The Trustees have joint responsibilities with the Session for the budget and personnel of the church.

The Deacons

Nominating Committee seeks people who are able to lift and carry the Tower of Elements, climb ladders to decorate at Christmas and Easter, fix baskets for Thanksgiving, arrange flowers on Sundays, prepare Communion, visit the sick, as well as have a passion for helping and caring for others. Deacons often work alone and must be self-starters.

TERM OF OFFICE: Three-year term; 2 consecutive terms maximum

The office of Deacon as set forth in scripture is one of sympathy, witness, spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies, sound judgment and service after the example of Jesus Christ. The Board of Deacons ministers to those in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress, in accordance with the scriptural duties of office. Deacons are called to serve as the primary assistants to the staff for pastoral care. Each Deacon participates on at least one committee with activities ranging from providing transportation for the elderly to and from worship services; personal visitation; correspondence and flower delivery to shut-in members; and benevolences. Deacons share the responsibilities for the communion services. In the language of the New Testament, a Deacon is one who serves.
Health Cabinet

This group operates under the following Mission Statement: "To involve the entire congregation in a healing ministry to each other with the understanding that when we care for each other with our hearts, our hearts too will be healed." Among their major projects is a monthly Journey to Wholeness (healing) Service which is held the first Wednesday evening of the month.

Pastoral Prayer Group

This group of dedicated ladies provides spiritual uplifting to persons in our church congregation and beyond who are in need (emotional, physical, or spiritual) or who may be facing or recovering from surgery by visiting them, taking a loaf of bread, a lap robe, pin, or a prayer bear. They send greetings and "we prayed for you" cards. Their work and caring gestures bring light into the darkest days of our family and friends.

Choir

At Stillwater United Church music is considered to be a vital part of the Church’s faith, prayer and emotional life. The congregation and choir are united in spirit and song each Sunday, creating an atmosphere of worship and preparing the hearts of those attending for the preaching of the Word of God. Reverend Woodman remarks that, “Stillwater United is passionate about their choir. The dedicated members of the choir enhance the service throughout the year and deepen the spiritual experience of United’s celebrants. At times the choir has been told that their singing rocks the foundation a shakes the heavens and earth.” The choir sings traditional anthems and spirituals, sacred and secular choral masterworks, and music by contemporary composers. The music ministry is made up of volunteers who have devoted time and energy to the music program under the leadership of Jim Davies, Organist and Choir Director for over 25 years.
